If the walls could talk

Written by: Jane O’Connor

Illustrated by: Gary Houland

If you like to read how presidents lived in the white house and pictures of big headed people, this is the book for you. It has all the presidents and plus their family. Now we are going to tell you the presidents and a fact. George Washington never lived in the white house. John Adam and his wife moved in the white house in 1800. Thomas Jefferson never liked the house very much. James Madison was president when British troops set the white house on fire. James Monroe moved in with his family even though the white house was still being worked on. When John Quincy Adams the grounds of the white house were open to public. Andrew Jackson had an open house at the white house 20,000 people showed up. Martin Van Buren auctioned off furniture that he thought was ugly. William Henry Harrison died 30 days after becoming president. When John Tyler was president, newspapers called the white house the Public Shabby. That was 10 presidents now you can read on about the other presidents.
